FCPH COVID-19 Status Statement – November 6, 2020

The troubling trend of record numbers in our new daily case reports continues in Franklin County and across Ohio. The only way to “flatten that curve” again is for each and every one of us to recommit to do what it takes to protect ourselves and each other.  Most cases being reported are community spread or connected to informal gatherings.  Even more troubling is the increase in the number of residents who are being hospitalized.

We urge you to avoid gatherings of any size with people outside of your household. Always wear a mask when in public or when around people outside of your household, stay home if you are sick, keep a six-foot social distance from others, and wash your hands often. As the Ohio Department of Health says, “Don’t Let Up.”  The video they created of the domino effect shows exactly how fast and easy cases will continue to spread if we do let up. The virus is not letting up, and we can’t either.

Yesterday, Franklin County Public Health (FCPH), along with our partners at Columbus Public Health, participated in the COVID-19 Defense Team meeting convened by Mayor Ginther and the President of the Board of County Commissioners, John O’Grady.  This coordination builds upon the work we have done since this pandemic began to connect with our community leaders throughout this response.  While there is no new announcement or action step as a result of that initial meeting, you can rest assured the leaders in this community are collectively working together in this fight against COVID-19. This team will meet monthly moving forward, and FCPH will post updates about those meetings along with our weekly partner and summary notes on our website.

To prevent further impact on our hospital systems please find time to get your annual flu shot if you haven’t already.  Be sure to continue to follow us on our social media platforms or visit our website often for COVID-19 information.
