Public Health Ready to Vaccinate 80 and Over to Start Phase 1B Next Week

Columbus Public Health (CPH) and Franklin County Public Health (FCPH) will both receive limited doses of COVID-19 vaccine to start vaccinating our seniors 80 years of age and older next week. CPH will only have 600 doses and FCPH only 500 doses to distribute the week of January 18.

“We were so pleased to see that 72 providers in Columbus and Franklin County are getting vaccine next week,” said Joe Mazzola, Franklin County Health Commissioner.  “The challenge continues to be the quantity of available vaccine and it is important to note that each provider will only receive a limited number each week, so we ask for your patience and understanding.”

We encourage family, friends and neighbors of those 80 years and older to help them find the best location to meet their needs and assist them with getting scheduled. CPH and FCPH encourage eligible residents to check and see if their primary care provider, hospital system, or pharmacy have vaccine and sign up that way if that is a more convenient option. The Ohio Department of Health will maintain a list all providers who received vaccine on their website at coronavirus.ohio.gov.

“We are hopeful with the news that we can begin to vaccinate and protect our residents over the age of 80 next week,” said Columbus Health Commissioner Dr. Mysheika Roberts. “While we have been given a limited amount of vaccine at Columbus Public Health, we are working to get it to them as quickly as possible to protect their health and safety.”
